NEW HAVEN — A Yale University student from Scituate died Wednesday morning in what appears to be a tragic laboratory accident.

Michelle Dufault, a Senior physics and astronomy student, died in Yale’s Sterling Chemistry Laboratory.

School officials did not release details on her death, the nature of the accident, or the time of the accident.

Boston.com reported that New Haven police received a 911 call at the lab around 2:30 a.m.

All labs and classes were canceled in the Sterling Laboratory. Yale University police are investigating the accident.

In an email from Yale vice president and secretary Linda Lorimer, Dufault was called “an exceptional young woman, an outstanding student and young scientist” and “a dear friend and a vibrant member of this community.”
