“Boston Legal” star Justin Mentell, 27, died Monday after his Jeep crashed in rural Wisconsin, reported MTV. The Iowa County Sheriff’s Department said Mentell died when his vehicle careened off a highway and down a steep embankment, colliding with two trees. Mentell was not wearing a seat belt at the time of the crash and was thrown from the Jeep. He was pronounced dead at the scene.
According to the Wisconsin State Journal, a farmer spotted the car while driving along a road outside Blanchardville, Wisconsin. Chief Deputy John Pepper told reporters, “It looks like (Mentell) had been there for several hours. There are a lot of trees in that area, so if you were driving on (Interstate) 39, you wouldn’t be able to see the vehicle. The farmer was traveling on Moscow Road after the sun came up, and he saw the Jeep in a field.” There are currently no indications that drugs or alcohol were involved in the crash but police are awaiting toxicology reports.
The actor was best known for portraying Garett Wells on the ABC hit show “Boston Legal” from 2005-2006. He was most recently in the movie “G Force,” a film about secret agent guinea pigs that also stars Zach Galifinakis. According to the Suburban Chicago News, he was named to the U.S. Junior National speed skating team in 2000 after placing in the top four overall at the national championships. He later used his skating skills in the film “Roll Bounce.” His personal website, justinmentell.com, offers information on his career as well as his funeral service which with be February 6 in Dallas, Texas at Restland Memorial Cemetery.
