Private First-Class Reid Taylor Little, 21, died Monday of injuries sustained from a gunshot wound while in his hometown of Scottsdale, Arizona, Fort Hood officials report.

Little joined the military in 2008 as a cannon crewman. Since September 2008 Little was a member of the “2nd Battalion, 82nd Field Artillery, 3rd Brigade Combat Team [and] 1st Cavalry Division,” according to Fort Hood.

He was deployed to Iraq in December of 2008 for one year. Little won several awards and was recognized for his time spent overseas in Iraq and for his loyal service to the Army.

Since March of 2003, more than 125 soliders, airmen, marines and sailors with a connection to Arizona have died in either Iraq or Afghanistan.

Little was shot in Arizona, and his death is currently under investigation.
