CROWN HEIGHTS, N.Y. – During a two-alarm fire in Brooklyn five firefighters were injured while battling flames coming from the second floor of a Crown Heights brownstone.
According to WABC, two firefighters from FDNY Rescue 2 were trapped on the third floor and sustained significant burn related injuries. Both men suffered second and third degree burns. One is in critical condition with third degree burns to his hands with second and third degree burns covering 45% of his body. They were taken to Cornell Medical Center and are both alert. It appears that neither man has life threatening injuries.
The other three firefighters suffered minor injuries and will make a full recovery.
The Prospect Place building caught on fire just after 9:00 a.m. and took nearly an hour to extinguish. Over 100 firefighters were called to the scene.
Reports state that the cause of the inferno is currently under investigation.
