The Associated Press is reporting that a glitch in Twitter allowed users to fake their level of popularity by making it look like celebrities or hundreds of other people were following them.

Twitter said Monday that the flaw had been fixed. Though unclear how it could be done, the glitch allowed users to add anyone else to their list of people following them on the popular social networking site.

While Twitter fixed the bug on Monday, all of its users had zero followers for about an hour.

Twitter recommends you “unfollow” anyone you think added you without your knowledge.
