Electronic Arts Inc announced Wednesday that legendary NASCAR driver Jeff Gordon of Du Pont 24 car fame, will be the cover athlete for EA Sports NASCAR 09.

NASCAR 09 promises to offer an authentic stock car driving experience for racing fans of all ages.

“It’s exciting being on the cover of NASCAR 09,” said Gordon in a statement released by Electronic Arts. “The game is as real as it gets and it’s been great being involved with it on this level. I look forward to helping gamers in NASCAR 09.”

NASCAR 09 will feature a career mode, called “Sprint for the Cup.” Gordon acts as a mentor players help build your reputation and hopefully win the Sprint Cup Series Championship.

“With a completely rebuilt handling model, the game will be more accessible to newcomers while continuing to offer options that will challenge even the most experienced virtual driver,” EA said Wednesday. “NASCAR 09 is an authentic NASCAR experience that will appeal to every type of NASCAR enthusiast.”

The EA Tiburon-developed title will be available for Xbox 360, PlayStation 3 and PlayStation 2 in North America June 10.

Well, now; as a fan of both: Tony Stewart, and Kasey Khane, I’d have to give a big thumbs down to their choice.

But, since the guy is a really good driver (though lately it hasn’t shown) I do have to commend EA & NASCAR for selecting such an icon of civilitude, and poise.

I own a PS2, so i wonder how some next-gen game will play/look on my out-dated system. I hope to pick it up when it comes out.

I can’t wait to play the Career Mode, on Simulation that makes you drive all 200 laps! Weeee!
