Although Wal-Mart had high hopes for the $150 Monster M7 tablet found exclusively at their store, Consumer Reports does not believe it is worth the money.
After testing, Consumer Reports found that the tablet regularly locks up. Out of three samples they have tested, all three had issues. When the tablet locks up, the screen either freezes or remains blank even though the backlight stays on. Consumer Reports noted this happened at any time during use and even when the tablet just sat idly.
Wal-Mart strangely does not even list this option on their website with their list of other tablet manufacturers but it can be found with a search. Even the manufacturer, Monster does not list it on their actual website and instead have a separate site specifically for the tablet. Unfortunately for consumers, the tablet website it as yet incomplete.
There are currently no system updates available for the tablet on the website. Consumer Reports called tech support for more information and were told that the tablet does not need an update for at least 8 months. The Monster Tablet has an Android 4.1, though, and other competitive tablets that will soon be released are already at 4.2, 4.3, or 4.4.
The Monster name is associated with top-of-the-line audio products. Consumer Reports does not believe that they have successfully made the switch to the tablet market but plans to watch to see what they release in the future.
