On February 4, doctors caring for Bobbi Kristina Brown informed her family that the 21-year-old is unlikely to recover from her current condition. According to CNN, the only child of late singer Whitney Houston was found unresponsive and facedown in a tub of water on January 31 and has since been placed in a medically induced coma.  After spending several days at North Fulton Hospital in Roswell, Georgia, she was transferred to Emory Hospital in Atlanta.

Little is known about Brown’s exact medical condition. A source close to the family confirmed that she is in a medically induced coma but said her level of brain function cannot be determined given the amount of sedatives with which she is currently being treated. A Roswell police spokesperson, Lisa Holland, said there is no clear cause for Brown’s lack of responsiveness, and nothing at the scene pointed to drugs or alcohol playing a role.

Police are centering their investigation around Brown’s boyfriend, Nick Gordon, who along with a friend, Maxwell Lomas, originally discovered her in the bathtub of her Roswell home.  As related by Holland, the two men called 911 and performed CPR until the arrival of emergency responders.

The most recent news has come as a shock to Brown’s family, especially Bobby Brown, who two years ago this month lost his wife, Bobbi Kristina’s mother.  A family member told People Magazine that the family is mourning, but some continue to hope that the young woman will make a miraculous recovery. In the meantime, family members are gathering in Atlanta to say good bye.
