What a day for open source loving, torrent-downloading computer hippies.

VLC Media Player, the software that can play nearly any video file, has come to the App Store, with iPod/iPhone and iPad versions now available for free.

Running all your video files on your Apple device has been problematic forever. The built-in player only supports certain formats, but this will no longer be an issue with VLC, which has long been a mega-popular cross-platform desktop computer choice.

The app is being put out by Applidium, a French company that also offers a Google Analytics app and a language translator.
