Oh yes they did.

The Discovery Channel and Hands-On Mobile today announced and released  “Deadliest Catch” for Apple handheld products, the iPhone, and iPod Touch, but strangely not the newly awesome iPad.

The game, simply called “Deadliest Catch,” is a suite of mini-games themed towards the Emmy Award-winning television show, challenging players to survive the harsh weather as they attempt to fill tanks with tasty crabs.

“If you’re a fan of the Deadliest Catch or just enjoy a great challenge, this game will have you on your toes and determined to beat the storm and catch some crab, just like the daring captains and crew on the series,” said Lynn Monica, vice president and general manager of mobile games for Hands-On Mobile.

In the game, you’ll play as captain and be able to choose your vessel, crew and gear. You’ll then set sail to the Bering Sea and hopefully return home safely to the Dutch Harbor. Just try to stay alive.

We’ve reached out to the publisher asking why the heck no iPad version is here and if and when we hear back, we’ll update the story. Happy crabbing!
