The 3DS has had its fair share of trouble since it’s launch early this year, and word is that Nintendo is looking to go back to the drawing board and are working on a “radically different” 3DS model.

French website 01.net reports that inside sources are claiming that the big N is working on a new 3DS model that would include toned down 3D effects and a second thumbstick, correcting two issues that early adopters have been clammering for.

Adding to the rumor’s believability, Nintendo is reportedly set to announce a detachable second thumbstick for the current 3DS model, priced at $10. Nintendo also has a pre-Tokyo Game Show event on September 13.
