Gaming’s worst kept secret is out of the bag, the long rumored PlayStation phone, officially called the Xperia Play is official, and it’s coming sooner than you think.

The Play, powered by Android and branded by Sony will officially be available in March of this year, Sony announced during a media briefing early Sunday morning. Verizon users will be the first to get the phone, but Sony added that they are currently working with other providers.

“This Spring, expect to see a lot of people with their heads down and thumbs up,” said Peter Farmer, Head of Marketing North America at Sony Ericsson. “Xperia PLAY combined with the power of the Verizon Wireless network gives you everything you need in a smartphone and the one thing you want – the ultimate gaming experience.”

At launch, The Xperia Play is expected to have roughly 50 titles from 20 different publishers including EA, Namco and Gameloft. Titles mentioned at the briefing include new versions of the Battlefield series, Assassin’s Creed and Dead Space.

Wish the phone was known as the Sony EXP to keep with the three character standard for Sony gaming systems.
