The sales figures are in, and you guessed it, Nintendo dominated.‚  Nintendo systems accounted for 58.4% of entire hardware sales in the month of March led by strong sales of new Pokƒ©mon among others.

According to the independent research firm the NPD group, Nintendo sold 601,000 Wii units in March and over 500,000 DS Lites even with the launch of the DSi looming on the horizon.

Of the top ten bestsellers across all platforms in March, Nintendo titles took four of the ten spots on the list.

02. Pokemon Platinum (DS) – 805,000
03. Halo Wars (X360) – 639,000
04. Resident Evil 5 (PS3) – 585,000
05. Wii Fit (Wii) – 541,000
06. MLB 09: The Show (PS3) – 305,000
07. Killzone 2 (PS3) – 296,000
08. Wii Play (Wii) – 281,000
09. Mario Kart Wii (Wii) – 278,000
10. MLB 2K9 (X360) – 205,000

“Nintendo systems accounted for 58.4 percent of the video game hardware sold in March, more than all other systems combined,” said Cammie Dunaway, Nintendo of America’s executive vice president of Sales & Marketing. “Consumers continue to be attracted to the wide range of software available and the great value of Nintendo systems.”

And those of you concerned about the innocent little DSi and how it would fare in the American market?‚  Put those fears to rest as the revamped handheld sold 435,000 units in the United States in the first week alone.‚  To put that figure in perspective, the first week sales of the DS Lite clocked in at a mere 226,300 systems.‚  What’s with all the interest you ask?‚  Read our in-depth review of the new system here.
