Randy Price, the country’s first openly gay news anchor and the face of the evening news on Boston’s WHDH-TV (Channel 7) has signed off.

The Boston Globe reported that price told friends and co-workers Friday that he reached a “mutual agreement” with the station’s owner, Ed Ansin, to leave his post after 12 years.

His last newscast was Wednesday night. Price had a contract with WHDH until 2012.

WHDH moved Kim Khazei to co-anchor with Frances Rivera on Channel 7’s 10 p.m. newscast, the Globe reported.

I along with an overwhelmingly huge number of New Englanders will sorely miss Randy Price. Randy is the pinnacle of excellence and professionalism.

Randy has been like a valued and trusted friend who kept me apprised of what’s happening in Boston and the world.

Simply put, Randy is the BEST in the industry. His leaving Channel 7 is a tremendous loss for them and a bigger loss for us.

Thank you Mr. Price for giving us all so much!
