Several law enforcement agencies, including Massachusetts State Police units searched for and captured a prisoner who briefly escaped from Salem District Court Monday.

Karl Hackney is awaiting trial on gun and drug charges and slipped away sometime around noon. He was captured an hour later on Hawthorne Boulevard.

According to the State Police, troopers from the barracks in Danvers, the State Police K9 Section, as well as the State Police Air Wing assisted in the search.

Hackney was handcuffed when he escaped. No additional details were released on how he escaped or how he was captured.
