Maybe you didn’t know, but Nintendo hasn’t always made Wiis, Gamecubes, and Mario. At one time, the Japanese company was called the “Nintendo Playing Card Company Ltd.” and showed up in this 1955 issue of The New York Times.

Take a look, it’s kind of fascinating how far, and how large, the company’s grown since this printing.
