UPDATE JAN 9: TAYLOR IS BACK FOR NEW MOON!
According to Ryan Seacrest on his syndicated radio talk show, actor Taylor Lautner, who played the character Jacob in November’s hit “Twilight” and was expected to reprise the role in the saga’s later installments, will not return in the second film, “New Moon.”
Summit Entertainment, the studio behind the “Twilight” franchise, allegedly paid leading man Robert Pattinson too much money to keep him for the next three films and could not afford the rest of the cast, Seacrest said.
“Twilight” director Catherine Hardwicke was confirmed to not be returning for “New Moon” last week because she could not commit to the release schedule Summit wanted for the film.
In “New Moon,” Jacob (who Lautner played in “Twilight) plays the leading man role in the absence of Edward (Pattinson) — the love interest of main character, Bella.
Since its release on November 21, “Twilight” has grossed over $140 million, nearly quadrupling its $37 million budget.

It’s not because of the money….. It’s because jacob needs to grow to about 7 ft tall…. a different actor is required to make that look even believeable…
I’m sure Robert Pattinson would be “running around naked” if he had been offered SOOOOOOO much money that the rest of the cast had been – cast out….
It goes without saying that Taylor Lautner MUST be Jacob! Where is Stephanie Meyer in all this? She needs to protect the integrity of her creation. Catherine Hardwicke is the perfect director for this: nothing in the book compares to the moment Bella enters Bio class in the film… Edward — repulsed — winged like an angel (flanked by a stuffed owl), Bella — self-conscious — her hair billows against the fan. The danger of sexuality, the grace of Desire. Beautiful. I dreamed that Hardwicke would continue to work through the ideas she introduces. It was like My So-Called Life with Godfather ambitions. In that tradition, I had hopes Part II would be better. Only one person could have gotten those performances from those actors (while d.p. Elliot Davis got the perfect look) — and now only these actors can retain that approach! This is a real shame. Oh well, here’s praying Kathryn Bigelow or Sturla Gunnarsson or Neil Jordan or Patrice Chereau (!!!omg!1) will be hired to take over “New Moon”. But something tells me they’re not looking for artists (Chris Weitz?????? YUCK!!). Anyone who directs “New Moon” should do screenings of “The Story of Adele H.”, “Godfather Part II” & “III”, and “The Company of Wolves” for inspiration and instruction.
The movie has made 170million world wide at this point. HOw in the hell do they not have enough money to pay for Taylor? How many bad movies did summit make that they needed Twilight to pay for?
If they weren’t going to use Taylor, then they should NOT have put him out there for the Hot Topic tour. Taylor has a dedicated fan base with Twilight that Summit had no problem cashing in on to promote the movie and now they complain that he’s too expensive? come on.
The wolf boys growing to be 6’5 could easily be ditched. What is important is making sure the wolves look convincing.
well, it depends. they absolutely HAVE to keep taylor for the beginning half cuz he’s sposed to be the same jacob when bella turns to him once edward leaves. HOWEVER, once the three day absence period passes and jacob’s a 6’5 werewolf, then they should replace taylor with a taller look a like (hoping for steven strait cuz he’s so sexy!!!). I do reely lik taylor tho, but i’m hoping he expected this too. i mean a 10 inch growth spurt and bulging muscles wasnt gonna be happening anytime soon.
and jesus, how much money is summit payin rob to be in 1/5 of the damn movie? im hoping they’re paying the same amount to kristen also.

What the hell are they doing?! How can they fire Taylor?!! He is way important to new moon and you can’t just replace him. If you’re keeping everyone else then it wouldn’t be right firing taylor. If its because he has a baby face he’s still growing plus he doesn’t age he just grows taller, and he’s tall enough! Plus summit has changed some things or skipped alot so why so they have to make the tallness important. I just think it is very important for taylor to stay.
I Like Taylor, and they should keep him for the first part of the movie. But once Jacob turns into a warewolf they do need a new actor. Hopefully they get Steven Strait and get him to bulk up.
Look, I liked Taylor in Twilight, but in New Moon he is supposed to emerge as a potential love interest for Bella. 16 year old Taylor has not refined his sexuality on screen to do this (as of yet). Whereas, as a 22 year-old man, Rob has. Do you really think Jacob Black (as played by Taylor) can compete? This is not to say that Taylor is not attractive; he is. It’s just he does not yet have the sexuality (or chemistry with Stewart) that Jacob will develope later on in New Moon. The competition for Bella has to look believable. I suggest they use Taylor until he morphs into a werewolf. Then, upon the transformation, they use another, older actor. This way, the “boyishness” of Jacob is preserved before his transformation, but the masculinity and sexuality that Jacob later exerts is also satisfied.
Remember: as much of text this is about sexual restraint there is the underlining theme–that both, if not all characters, have sex on their minds. All need to look it.
omg. that is soooo stupid! Taylor Lautner is one of my favorite people in the movie. it would be so stupid to get rid of him because he was sooo good as Jacob and that would be stupid to change actors right now. i really think that they should keep him as Jacob Black

Alright Micheal Copon, is ugly and does not fit the role of Jacob Black. AT ALL. Replacing Taylor Lautner was the dumbest move, in the history of dumbest moves!

well they should realize that a bunch of people came to see ttwilight not only for the book but becaue taylor is hot. like honetly teenage girls do that.
I don’t want Taylor to be replaced but if he is, the only actor that would even pass as Jacob would be Steven Strait. I won’t be happy with anyone else but one of those two.

they can’t replace taylor!! it’ll completely throw off the series!!! we’ve all read the books, we know they’ll never make a movie as good as any 1 of the books, we know jacob is 6’7, quit obsessing over details when there’s a bigger issue TAYLOR IS JACOB!!!!!! they said so when they cast him for the 1st 1, & i thought he was perfect!!! he WAS sunshine in the 1st 1, & i know he’ll be great in new moon. from what i’ve been reading from comments on different news articles, the majority of twilighters want to keep taylor. he’s who i see when i read the books!!
