“I have never talked about so much dick in an interview,” said Novarro.

Laughing and joking is an integral part of the Cobra Starship experience. The band’s drive is to help kids not take themselves so seriously.

“Our first priority is to make sure you have a good time,” Saporta said later from onstage to the packed arena. Some fans, via Twitter and message boards, have expressed concern that the Cobra party attitude might becoming detrimental to the band’s health, especially considering Saporta’s ankle injury earlier in the tour and a bout of throwing up that required the band to cancel one of their shows on tour while the lead singer sought hospital treatment.

“Gabe was completely sober when he hurt his ankle,” corrected Suarez, “He was jumping off a (drum) riser before Fall Out Boy’s set and landed wrong. ”

“What we do is like a sport. I couldn’t get trashed and then go run laps,” said Novarro.

Peterson immediately jumped in. “I think it would be different if it were affecting the actual performance. If they were messing up notes or having to start songs over then it would be a problem.”

“You know for some people, they probably perform better after loosening up after a drink. I personally never drink before a show. That’s just a rule I have. If I drink before I play: a. I get tired faster, b. I start thinking about what I’m actually doing and then I mess up more, but that’s because I’m thinking too much, not because I’m drunk. But could you imagine if Cobra Starship didn’t drink? What if we were some Christian band, and I’m not saying Christian bands don’t party, but seriously, what if we were like that? That’s my question, if Cobra Starship didn’t party, would you still like our band?” Suarez said.

It seems the majority of fans are still down for the Cobra Starship party because when Saporta steps on stage and says the word, 5,000 pairs of hands go into the air throwing their “Fangs Up” with their right index and middle fingers hooked like snake teeth and their left hand fanned behind it. By throwing up the hand symbol, Saporta initiates them all as “Cobras for life.” Showing the connection between the band and their fans has always been taken seriously.

Cobra Starship was one of the first bands to jump on the Twitter bandwagon. Each of the members have their own account, and there’s a CSNEWS twitter that informs fans of contests and other CS happenings.

“It’s actually better than (Myspace). It’s so quick. It limits you what you can say but Suarez will update with our set time because it changes every night,” Novarro said.

Suarez not only updates with set times but also alerts fans when he and other Cobra members are heading to the merch booth to hang out. He usually announces it during the Fall Out Boy set, but at every show Suarez signs autographs and takes pictures until any fan who wants one has gotten one.

It seems that the Cobra Starship mantra has no reason to change – it’s still about having a good time and being the anecdote for the “scene kids” who take everything too seriously. Likewise, they have no plans to be shrugged off as a movie gimmick or to be the butt of the joke unless they are the ones making it.

This summer you can expect to see lots more of Cobra Starship on the road, a new album (with a possible collaboration with Gossip Girl, Leighton Meester), and a lot more cock, metaphorically, of course.
