Have you picked up any amiibos recently? Nintendo’s third wave of its collectible NFC-compatible figurines comes out next month and includes the Super Smash Bros. characters Lucario, Rosalina and Luma, Bowser, Toon Link, Sheik, Ike, Meta Knight, King Dedede, Shulk, Mega Man, and Sonic. If that wasn’t enough for you, the fourth wave of amiibos was announced in today’s Nintendo Direct and includes Robin, Lucina, Wario, Pac-Man, Ness, and Charizard. Look for these guys sometime this spring.
But that’s not all. Nintendo isn’t just releasing amiibos based off the characters from Super Smash Bros. Those that have been released already are compatible with other Nintendo games as well, but to give players additional data space (or to provide collectors with more variety), Nintendo is also releasing a new set of Mario-themed amiibos this March.
Available March 20 are new Mario, Luigi, Peach, Bowser, Yoshi, and Toad amiibos. This set will coincide with the release of Mario Party 10 and also plays an important part in the game as they can open up special boards depending on which amiibo you tap on your GamePad.
Nintendo is definitely doing its best to incorporate your collection of figurines into their games. Titles you wouldn’t expect like Bandai Namco’s Ace Combat: Assault Horizon Legacy Plus even contain additional features for amiibo owners. Here’s a compatibility chart showcasing all the games your amiibos can interact with. Play with them or keep them in their packaging. Just be sure to get them before they’re sold out!
