diskMost people think that the government uses cutting-edge technology to remain prepared for major threats that could impact National Security.

In most cases, this is probably true. When it comes to messages about nuclear, weapons, however, that is not the case.

As Lesley Stahl demonstrates in this report from CBS News, branches of the military still use old-school computers with floppy discs to receive and decode messages pertaining to these matters. In fact, if the president were to send a launch order, it would be received on one of these massive and old computers that still uses floppy discs the size of a CD case.

While they no longer contain information that allow you to run computer games like “Oregon Trail,” these discs manage to hold their own in this technology-driven world.
