Acura is the luxury vehicle division of Honda, and they make a quality vehicle for the money.  Their current lineup includes sedans, SUVs, and a station wagon.  There is a noticeable gap in that lineup that needs to be filled.  Acura is in need of a coupe.  You can argue that the NSX concept is a coupe, but it is more of a super car.  Something to compete against the Audi R8 and Lexus LFA.  What Acura needs is something to go against sports coupes like the BMW 335i, Infiniti G, Audi A5, Mercedes C-Class, and so on.  Hell, Acura doesn’t even have a “sport” line of cars.  They used to make a TL Type S, which was a TL sedan outfitted with a sport package, but that all seemed to go away after Acura started to restyle their vehicles back in 2010.

Acura has gone through quite a bit of changes in the past decade or so.  They decided to ax their only coupe, the CL, out of their lineup back in 2003.  The CL wasn’t fast or made for the track by any means, but it was a stylish little coupe that is still well liked in the import community.  The TSX was brought into the picture in 2004 and was their entry-level sedan at the time.  We haven’t seen a coupe from these guys in ten years.

Infiniti, Nissan’s luxury division, is Acura’s direct competitor.  It is like Ford vs. Chevy.  Infiniti is so ahead of the game when it comes to their cars.  Just go on their website and see what I mean.  The G37 coupe is such an awesome ride, and Acura is stupid to not have something to compete with it.  Give me a G37 with the 6-speed and optional $800 exhaust and I will do donuts around the local Acura dealer.

This is more of a rant than an actual article with facts and numbers.  I’m just disappointed as a fan and former Acura owner that they do not have a sports coupe.  They have the perfect chance to get back into this market.  What are they waiting for?
