During last night’s episode of faux-news program “The Colbert Report”, host Stephen Colbert announced that the show’s influence would once again cross over into reality: in the spirit of the summer music festival season, Colbert will be hosting his own, featuring  Fun., The Flaming Lips, and Santigold.

“StePhest Colbchella ‘012: RocktAugustFest” will take place August 10 on the deck of the USS Intrepid – “This will be the greatest thing ever to happen on the Hudson River!” Colbert declared – and footage will air during subsequent episodes of the Report.

Tickets are free and up for grabs: to earn one of the 100 that the show is offering up, fans just have to send a heartfelt tweet to the official Colbert Report Twitter (before 3 p.m. today) explaining why they deserve the pass. (Rules for the contest are up on the official Facebook page).

This is this is Colbert’s second foray into the summer music scene: last June the show hosted “StePhest Colbchella ‘011: Rock You Like a Thirst-Icane”, a week-long string of in-studio performances and interviews.
