Fans of the Elder Scrolls games know the world of Tamriel is huge. Spanning various continents and empires, each game has given us a lively setting full of people and races to befriend or control. With a such a huge world, you’d think we could experience it with others. But no, the Elder Scrolls games haven’t taken advantage of online gaming. Until now.

Bethesda today announced that The Elder Scrolls Online is in development and will be the first online MMO that will let players explore the worlds of the Elder Scrolls games together. The game is being developed for PC and Mac by ZeniMax Online under the leadership of industry veteran Matt Firor.

“We have been working hard to create an online world in which players will be able to experience the epic Elder Scrolls universe with their friends, something fans have long said they wanted,” said Firor, game director of The Elder Scrolls Online. “It will be extremely rewarding finally to unveil what we have been developing the last several years. The entire team is committed to creating the best MMO ever made – and one that is worthy of The Elder Scrolls franchise.”

More details on the game will be announced in the June issue of Game Informer, but be sure to stay tuned as more info starts trickling in this month.
