Tony Iommi, guitarist in the legendary Black Sabbath, was diagnosed with cancer, made public as of Monday. According to a statement released on his website, he “has been diagnosed with the early stages of lymphoma,” but “Iommi is currently working with his doctors to establish the best treatment plan–the “IRON MAN” of Rock & Roll remains upbeat and determined to make a full and successful recovery.”

Iommi’s bandmates have been supportive, asking everyone to “send positive vibes to the guitarist at this time”, and are joining Iommi in the UK.

The band announced in November the plans for their summer world tour and the September release of their first album together since 1978’s “Never Say Die!”

Iommi released a message on Friday expressing his gratitude for the support he has received, adding on a positive note “Well it’s not what I wanted for Christmas, that’s for sure, but now I can’t wait for the test results to come in and get going with the treatment.”
