SAN FRANCISCO — Sheriff-elect, Ross Mirkarimi is being investigated for domestic abuse.

Ivory Madison, neighbor of Mirkarimi and his wife Eliana Lopez, reported to police that Lopez was a victim on New Years Eve. According to the San Francisco Examiner, Madison had apparently videotaped the bruise on Lopez’s arm with a Panasonic video camera and had received text messages about the information of her injuries. After police got a search warrant to search the iPhone, Madison claims that Lopez did not want to report the incident because of Mirkarimi’s strong ties.

According to the San Jose Mercury News, Lopez denies the abuse reports. “I have absolutely no complaint against my husband. My husband has never been abusive to me. Ross and I are committed to our marriage, our son and our family,” Ms. Lopez said in a statement.

Mirkarimi is facing these accusations just as he is about to be sworn in as San Francisco’s newest Sheriff this Sunday, replacing Michael Hennessey who is retiring after 32 years of work, NBC Bay Area reports.

District Attorney George Gascon told the Mercury News, “We’re still waiting for the police investigation, and once the investigation is presented to us, we’ll evaluate as we would do with any other case involving domestic violence.”
