SAN JOSE, Calif. — Steve Ruiz, a 38 year-old Hells Angel member who is suspected of shooting fellow biker Steve Tauson, was reportedly spotted in San Jose this weekend. San Jose police officer Jose Garcia told SF Weekly that the San Jose police team thinks Ruiz is either in San Jose, Campbell, Fremont or Gilroy. “If anyone aided him we will arrest those individuals and prosecute them to the fullest extent of the law.” Police also say that it is likely that Ruiz is traveling in a gold Chevrolet Suburban along with his 42-year-old girlfriend, Christel Renee Trujillo.
Police have been searching for Ruiz since October 15, when he and Tauson got in an altercation at former President of the San Jose Hells Angels, Jeffery Pettigrew’s funeral at the Oak Hill Funeral Home and Memorial Park. According to SF Gate, Ruiz disappeared after the shooting and several bystanders tampered with the crime scene, washing away bloodstains and removing other evidence of the shooting. Police later found Ruiz’s motorcycle at the funeral home but the suspect has not come to claim it.
Following the incident police suspected that Ruiz was hiding in his three-bedroom Stockton home. They drove vehicles to the scene and called for him to surrender, eventually firing tear gas into the home on Saturday, October 22. However, Ruiz was not present and the home was empty. It was at one point believed that Ruiz could have been hiding in Pettigrew’s grave, but when investigators dug it up Ruiz’s body was not present.
Police have asked citizens to keep an open eye for Ruiz. He is said to likely be traveling with his 42 year-old girlfriend named Christel Renee Trujillo in a gold Chevrolet Suburban.
