EA and Klei Entertainment announced that they’re developing a sequel to Xbox Live indie darling Shank for release next year; but they’d rather you not call it a sequel.

“We didn’t make another Shank,” Jamie Cheng, CEO of Klei said, “we completely ripped the game apart and reconstructed it with better controls and visuals.”

According to Cheng, the studio has listened to fan feedback regarding the original title, and developed a better game, including better visuals, controls and yes — more co-op.

Shank 2 is expected to be released sometime in early 2012.
