SAN DIEGO — Two crew members were killed when an AH-1 Cobra attack helicopter crashed during training at Camp Pendleton, the Marine Corps has confirmed.

The aircraft, belonging to the 3rd Marine Aircraft Wing went down in a designated training area at about 1 p.m. Monday, the Marines said in a statement.

Two crew members aboard were pronounced dead at the scene by emergency crews.

The crash caused a large fire near the unincorporated community of Fallbrook, Calif. Firefighters were working Monday to put out the blaze.
