LOS ANGELES — Namco Bandai Games and Team Aces released a special E3 2011 trailer for Ace Combat Assault Horizon.

Blast had a chance to get hands-on with the game for a short period of time. It is visually stunning, with great terrain, aircraft detail, and all the arcade action we’ve come to expect from the Ace Combat franchise.

The controls were a bit loose for our liking, but that’s usually something that can be adjusted in the final product.

The game is an arcade flight combat sim, with few bits of realism. You get dozens of missiles, shoot down dozens of aircraft, and fly in ways real aircraft (and pilots) usually can’t withstand. Still, the series is fun, and the trailer is amazing.

“For us, this is a rebirth of our premiere franchise, Ace Combat. It’s a chance for us to take the player in a completely new direction,” said Kazutoki Kono, Producer and Executive Director of Project Aces at Namco Bandai. “I’m confident that we’re creating a new type of intense and visceral action shooting experience with Ace Combat Assault Horizon. We’re utilizing all of our collective vision and skills to deliver a phenomenal game. Players will be closer than ever to the combat, experiencing the impact of each shot fired.”

If dodging skyscrapers and shooting down MIGs are your things, then pick up a copy when it launches for PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360 in mid-October.
