The Japanese nuclear safety agency has reported a nuclear emergency at a second reactor in the same complex where an explosion had occurred earlier, the Associated Press is reporting.

The Nuclear and Industrial Safety Agency said early Sunday, local time, that there was a malfunction in the cooling system at Unit 3 of the Fukushima Dai-ichi nuclear power plant. The agency was informed of the situation by Tokyo Electric, the utility which runs the plant.

No additional details were released.

An earlier explosion at another reactor in the same complex destroyed the building housing the reactor and sending radioactive material into the air. Thousands have been evacuated from the area.
