A helicopter used by WCVB Channel 5 landed unexpectedly on Boston Common on Monday afternoon, triggering a massive emergency response from multiple local agencies.

The helicopter, with the station’s markings, was visible on the Common as a large crowd gathered to see what happened.

Boston Police quickly signaled the pilot and co-pilot were walking around after the landing and that there were no injuries. The copter experienced mechanical failure.

But a massive Fire Department and EMS response followed, as people called in a “helicopter crash on the Boston Common.” Red and blue lights could be seen in all directions as crews responded from around the city.

Channel 5 acknowledged that a “hard landing” occurred with their helicopter.
