The Westboro Baptist Church announced in a memo on its Web site, www.godhatesfags.com, that it plans to picket at Elizabeth Edwards’ funeral Saturday, to be held in Raleigh, N.C.

The group, based in Kansas, frequently protests soldiers’ funerals and is famous for its many hateful–and distasteful–picket signs, including “God Hates Fags,” “Thank God for Dead Soldiers,” “Thank God for Breast Cancer” and “Thank God for 9/11.”

Edwards, the estranged wife of former presidential candidate John Edwards, died of breast cancer earlier this week at the age of 61. The WBC’s memo claims that “God hates” Edwards and that she is a “resident of hell, where her rebellion and rage will take full flower.” The group’s anger towards her seems to be rooted in her statements to the media regarding she and John’s 16-year-old son Wade, who died in a car crash in 1996. The WBC deemed her statements “blasphemy.”

The WBC’s memo can be read in its entirety below.

I think those jerks will find out just who god ‘hates’ and it isn’t elizabeth edwards or those soldiers…. it’s people who judge everyone else and act so horribly as those people claiming to be christians do.

I see it this way they want to use the freedom of speech for their hate, If I ever come across them. I will use my freedom of speech as well and as for my brother that is in jail because of this hate group I say all vets come together and post his bail. Lets show these Hateful people that reguardless of their misguided beliefs that we as Americans still stick together and if any of the members of the WBC had a brain between them they would relize that those they speak out against are the ones that give them the right to do so. and to you members of the WBC i would suggest read the bible and hear the true word of god not your misguided view of it. But no matter I will say this May the Good Lord Bless you all and keep you safe and I hope and pray that he will enter your hearts and that he shows you the way.

    God Bless

These pseudo-Christians will, I believe, get a good picture of what Hell is like when they stand before God’s judgment throne and hear Him say, “Depart from Me, into the place reserved for you.” They forget the teachings of Scripture, for instance, in James 1.27, “This is pure and undefiled religion in the sight of our God and Father, to visit orphans and widows in their distress, and to keep oneself unstained by the world.” (“Visit”, as in “to visit for the purpose of comfort and relief.” [Greek].

God alone is God .He is the judge over all God hates no man only sin, as christians we need to help heal the broken as the Samaritan did, Let us be about the work of God with the love of God. The enemy of our soul is out to destroy, we need not help him, Let us not forget who has forgiven us, It is commanded we extend the same grace and let God be God.

As I understand it, the bible says that misusing “GOD” is worse than misusing money and power in terms of the level of misuse argument. That is all I really have and the protesters are all sinners anyways.
