Jessica Simpson is engaged to Eric Johnson, the Yale-educated former NFL player.
The couple stared dating in May.
Joe Simpson, Jessica’s father, tweeted, “So very happy for Jess and Eric. May they have a lifetime of joy and happiness.”
Johnson played for the San Francisco 49ers in 2001 and then moved to the New Orleans Saints before becoming a free agent in 2008. Johnson separated from his wife of five years in October 2009, filing for divorce in February and finalizing it in September.
Simpson was famously to fellow pop-star Nick Lachey, before abruptly announcing the dissolution of their marriage in November 2006. Lachey later said he was shocked when Simpson informed him their marriage was over. Since, Simpson has had several high profile romances, including one with NFL quarterback Tony Romo. Earlier this year, John Mayer called her “sexual napalm” in an interview with Playboy magazine.
The timing of this reeks of desperation. As Simpson’s career has declined precipitously in recent years, she has little else keeping her famous other than her personality. And by the way, she gets engaged (to a nobody she’s been dating for only five months) less than a week after ex-husband Nick Lachey announces his own engagement?
