A 42-year-old Brentwood, N.Y. man was killed early Sunday morning after a fire swept through his home, officials said.

Sean Sheridan was unable to escape the flames, Newsday reported. His mother was able to escape, but he became trapped in the fire that broke out shortly before 12:30 a.m.

According to the US Fire Administration, which reports on fire fatalities, the cause is still under investigation.
