A 20-year-old Somerville man was arrested by a SWAT team early Monday morning after he allegedly shot at two Somerville Housing Authority police officers.

Luis Angel Lopez was arrested after police surrounded his home at 37 Jacques St., said Somerville Deputy Police Chief Paul Upton.

Around 10:30 p.m., Upton said the Housing Authority officers were on patrol on Temple Street near the Mystic Housing Development when they heard two gunshots and saw a group of men running. The officers gave chase in a vehicle. As one officer got out of the unmarked cruiser, Lopez allegedly turned and fired a single shot, striking the driver’s side door.

The officer was not injured.

Neighboring homes were evacuated as a precaution.

Lopez was found hiding in a first floor bedroom and was taken into custody without further incident around 1:30 a.m. He will be arraigned in Somerville District Court Monday morning.
