BLAST: Your songs were used on “The Hills,” “So You Think You Can Dance,” and “90210.” How did you guys feel when you heard your own song on TV for the first time?

RF: Um, it was pretty crazy. The first time we heard them on there was, it was definitely mind-blowing. You know, so many people were watching it at that moment to hear your song being exposed to that many people. It’s a very overwhelming feeling.

NO: There are a lot of text messages that come through when it happens. Everybody was like, even if you haven’t talk to them in forever, they were like “Hey, I heard your song on TV!” and you are thinking like “Yeah, I know. I am watching it too!” That’s like in 10 seconds. And it’s pretty wild, like the response that you get from people you already know.

BLAST: What song would be the next single?

RF: Um, the next single? Um, you know,

JF: That’s a secret.

RF: That’s a secret!

IK:: We will get back to you on that one.

NO: Stay on Twitter or Facebook page. All the stuff will keep updated. But when we decide it, we will let you know.

BLAST: What song do you guys enjoy playing the most at shows?

RF: Um, I really enjoy playing “Alright” the most.

JF: I do, as well. We all come agree on that one.

IK:: It’s slowly becoming an anonymous agreement that we really enjoy playing that song. I also like playing “Never Have I Ever” a lot just because of its energy and it’s really kind of like “Go hard and go home” kind of song.

NO: “Alright” is slowly into our favorite song style, so.

BLAST: Do you guys cover or practice other bands’ songs?

JF: We kind of just know a lot of songs and we can kind of work something up in a few minutes.

NO: If you leave Jamie and I on stage for more than 5 minutes, we are gonna end up playing Britney Spears and,

JF: There are some videos of us on YouTube after a sound check, me and Nash just playing Adam Lambert and everything you’ve heard on Top 40 just randomly.

NO: We cover like first 5 seconds of the song and then switch. So, yeah, I mean we definitely covered different songs live as a band. We covered Katy Perry and who else we covered? I’m trying to remember, Jet?

JF: Jet!

RF: We covered everything. We covered Maroon 5, Taylor Swift. You name it, we covered it. Pretty much!

BLAST: Your audience has been getting huge and more diversified. What would you guys want to communicate to them the most?

NO: I think the most important thing for us and our audiences is to write songs, like you said “The Distance” really related to you.

RF: Yeah.

NO: I think that’s the most important thing. For us, it is to write a song that somebody can listen to and relate to and feel like we do. Or like, they can imagine being playing with us like we were when we wrote the song.

RF: It’s all about connection. So conveying your emotion and having people connected with you is the most important part. I mean, no one wants to hear some songs that they don’t understand the meaning to, like it’s just not, there is no point.

IK:: And we definitely want everyone to understand and know that our fans, people who listen to our music, we completely cherish all of them because we are, um, they are the reason why we do what we do. And like, every show, every night, every song we write, it’s, so that we can get that feedback and share that with our bands.

BLAST: You guys are currently touring with Parachute. You toured with Owl City, Third Eye Blind, Boys like Girls, and Cobra Starship before. Who would you want to tour with next?

RF: Maroon 5!

JF: Maroon 5!

NO: Maroon 5!

IK:: Maroon 5!

BLAST: (Laughs)

NO: Maroon 5 is definitely one of our biggest current influences and they are such a great band and great songwriters so,

JF: We are on a mission.

NO: So, we really wanna tour with them.

BLAST: Hot Chelle Rae has a Twitter account as a band and each member also has your own Twitter account, which I think is a rare thing. Are you guys big fans of Twitter?

NO: Oh, yeah.

JF: It’s very addicting.

IK:: I spend too much time on it.

RF: It’s becoming an addiction at this point. It’s fun, I like it.(Laughs)

BLAST: So, you guys played NYC Monday and will be playing in Boston on Wednesday. Can I get some message from you guys to the Boston fans?

NO: Boston is one of our favorite cities in the states for sure.

RF: Absolutely, absolutely.

NO: We love to play in Boston so we are really excited to go there.

RF: We want Boston to come out.

JF: Paradise.

RF: And, dance!

IK:: At Paradise!

RF: Yeah!

NO: It’s gonna be fun!

RF: It’s gonna be a blast!

BLAST: What’s the goal that you guys want to accomplish within the next 10 years?

IK:: World domination.

RF: World domination.

JF: World domination.

RF: World domination!

NO: To be the biggest band in the world. We have been together for five years so we are really excited and, you know, we all love each other and we feel like [we are] brothers so we are not going to anywhere. We will be around in 10 years and we are planning to go to Japan, Australia, and

IK:: Brazil!

RF: Brazil! We are coming!

IK:: Brazil! Next to go!

JF: Anywhere you can go.

NO: We haven’t played in UK yet so like, we just wanna travel and get as many people as possible.

RF: World peace!

On that night, after this interview, Hot Chelle Rae went to get ready for the New York show to open for Parachute. They played eight songs. For a band that only has a single album with two singles so far, they totally killed it on stage. It seemed like each member totally enjoyed being there, playing and communicating to the audience through music that they created. Their sound was fun, honest, real and youthful. It is really exciting to see where they would be going from here.

Hot Chelle Rae plays the Paradise Rock Club on Wednesday.
