Gail Huff, the longtime WCVB Channel 5 news reporter, is leaving the television station.

Huff, a 17-year veteran at Channel 5, cited a desire to spend more time with her husband and daughters, Ayla and Arianna.

Huff is married to US Senator Scott Brown.

Ayla was a contestant on “American Idol” and recently graduated from Boston College.

"This has been one of the most difficult personal or professional decisions I have ever made, but it is the right one for me, because it enables me to spend more time with my husband and family," Huff said in a statement. "While I will miss my coworkers and loyal viewers in New England, I look forward to this stage in my career."

Huff said she’s taken a part-time reporting job in Washington.

Bostonians woke up to Huff for about 15 years as she worked as a reporter for the channel’s “EyeOpener” morning show.

"Gail is a true professional, and we are grateful for her many years of fine work. We will miss her as a journalist and friend," said WCVB President and General Manager Bill Fine.

Huff’s last day on the air at WCVB will be June 25.
