When the clock strikes midnight this evening, Microsoft will pull the plug for original Xbox Live support, bringing an abrupt end to the “Halo 2” era and anything else gamers play.

In February, Microsoft said it planned to cut LIVE support for original Xbox games and that day is fast approaching, like less than 24 hours.

“We’ll continue to evolve the service with features and experiences that harness the full power of Xbox 360,” Xbox Live general manager Marc Whitten said in the February statement announcing the change. “To reach our aspiration, we need to make changes to the service that are incompatible with our original Xbox V1 games.”

Halo developer Bungie is planning an extravagant going away party for “Halo 2” and you can read about the happenings here.

The plug gets pulled at exactly midnight Pacific time, so if you desire one last hoorah, hurry up!
