There are a few hot bits of news to kick off this week.

First of all, Fox announced Monday that Simon Cowell will be leaving “American Idol.” Suprisingly, it’s not because he was sick to death of Ryan Seacrest or appalled by talentless contestants. He’ll be bringing his popular U.K. talent show, “The X Factor,” to American audiences on Fox.

“I want to leave ‘Idol’ this year bigger and better than it was in the past,” Cowell said on Monday.

Will America keep watching? Of course. Will anyone ever criticize a contestant again? Maybe, but it won’t be very funny.

In the sports world, it looks like female Yankees fans everywhere are going to have to give up hope. Veteran Yankees shortstop and team heart-throb Derek Jeter is engaged. According to the New York Post, he and his lovely girlfriend Minka Kelly are getting married Nov. 5 on Long Island.

Well, maybe. A reporter, acting on a tip, pretended she was getting married so she could look at the calendar for the Oheka Castle in Huntington, N.Y. She spotted the words "JETER wedding" on the calendar. The reporter mentioned it to the sales manager, Rick Bellando, but he insisted celebrities aren’t listed by their real names.

The final, most troubling tidbit. Former vice presidential candidate, Alaska governor and, in case you didn’t know, former sportscaster Sarah Palin will be joining Fox News as a political commentator. She’ll also be the occassional host of “Real American Stories,” a new series Fox said will tell inspirational true stories about Americans who overcoming adversity.

Honestly, the latter seems more like Palin’s cup of tea. Political commentary? How can anyone take her seriously when she completely destroyed the McCain campaign, resigned as governor and has repeatedly and publically embarrassed herself?

Whether or not we’re excited — I’m sure many people actually are — Sarah certainly seems pumped.

“I am thrilled to be joining the great talent and management team at Fox News,” Palin said in a statement posted on Fox’s Web site. “It’s wonderful to be part of a place that so values fair and balanced news.”

Hilarious? You betcha.

    Ashley Who?

Not sure who put her in charge of writing this claptrap, but it’s not very well researched or intelligent.

The facts are this…Palin boosted the McCain bid for president, everyone knows that, even the little old lady in a Chinese village where there’s only one T.V.

Maybe Ashley should go back to school? Get an education?
Quit watching SNL for her information?

Sorry your terrified Ashley, I’m terrified there are people like you out there, putting out disinformation and biased opinion as facts.

First rule of journalism, don’t make things up.

Unfortunately, this will not be the laugh riot of it’s potential. She won’t be permitted to write her own material which would surely be the source of great amusement. Let’s hope they’ll be unable to prevent her from relentless ad-libbing. Poor Gene and Jennifer, still holding on to a hopeless fantasy. The sooner you admit you were wrong about her, the sooner you’ll be able to quit wasting time trying to save face. There’s no shame in admitting you’re wrong.

Couldn’t have said it better than Jennifer.Ashley Dean seriously your ilk and these type articles will only ensure that if Palin runs for POTUS that she will be elected. The working class identify with her and all you say about her they feel is said about them therefore they rally to defend her against all these inane attacks & twisting mockery of everything she says and does. You could do yourself a favor and read GOING ROGUE yourself instead of taking the attacks of her book from Huffington Post.In school when you were supposed to write a book review did you only write it based on book reviews or actually read the books. You do read right? No you will not agree with her issues but you will understand her thinking and reasoning better and you will know that her character has been totally twisted into something she could never be. Also as a writer you do research I assume so would you research to find for me (seriously I am curious) WHAT OTHER POLITICIAN IN HISTORY HAVE YOU KNOWN THAT AT ANY TIME DURING THEIR SERVING HISTORY HAS HAD A 93% APPROVAL RATING?
MOSTLY, DO SOME RESEARCH TO FIND OUT EXACTLY WHY SHE IS SO POPULAR AND IN DEMAND THAT FOX OFFERED HER THIS DEAL? If she was not esteemed to be a great pundit for Conservative views then Fox would lose money but obviously they see $$$….and they are the most watched show on cable news. What Beck commands 2.2 million viewers so someone is watching Fox…..and since Fox beats in ratings overwhelmingly more viewers than all the other news shows combined that MAKES YOUR VIEWS AND STATEMENTS ABOUT PALIN THE MINORITY OF PEOPLE. Ahh shucks!
btw: McCain came to town and less than 1,000 showed up while the same day Sarah Palin drew 10,000. In the crowds were the farmer, the plumber, the doctor, the lawyer, the professor, the Hockey Moms, the grandmas and the grandpas …and not just those that can’t read. Duh!
