Maybe you thought Shantae, the half-genie heroine was dead. After lackluster sales from the GameBoy Color project of 2002, developer Wayforward is bringing the purple-haired cutie back to life in “Shantae: Risky’s Revenge” for DSiWare later this year.

Following poor sales of Shantae for GameBoy Color, Matt Bozon, Creative Director at Wayforward stated that he’s dabbled with the idea of releasing a Shantae project on GameBoy Advance, GameCube, DS, Wii, PSP, and even mobile platforms. However, none of those concepts materialized.

Until today.

Revealed in Nintendo Power, Matt Bozon, Creative Director at Wayforward, and overseer of Shantae’s new game, let loose information regarding the project and how it’ll be released.

Debuting‚  in three episode based packs for DSiWare, Shantae will begin her journey in “Shantae: Risky’s Revenge,” and Bozon couldn’t be happier.

“Getting to make such a long awaited sequel says a lot on many levels.‚  First, that something in the game biz changed for the better…Second, we can finally deliver this game which so many Wayforward staffers past and present have been working towards since 2002.”

Look for “Risky’s Revenge” on DSiWare later this year.
