The Tony Hawk killing machine of a franchise, EA’s Skate, is set to receive a third core installment, as Electronic Arts today announced Skate 3 for Xbox 360 and PS3, due out May 2010.

New additions for the third game in the series include the ability to work together and form the “ultimate skate crew” in what EA is calling the “definitive co-op skateboarding experience.” Additionally, team-based challenges, competitions against rival crews, and the brand new “skater’s paradise” shred environment of Port Caverton await skaters in the game.

“The social and community aspects of the SKATE f ranchise are something we’ve always embraced, but we’ve never done anything to the scale you’re going to see in SKATE 3“ said Senior Producer, Jason DeLong. “We’re giving gamers a very unique experience by providing them with the tools they need to build their ultimate team or to create a team comprised entirely of their online friends. From there, it’s all about proving yourself “" teaming up, and throwing down.”

Fans of realistic skateboarding can get their fix May 2010 when SKATE 3 hits PS3 and Xbox 360. Me? Once a Tony Hawk kid, always a Tony Hawk kid.
