According to Billboard.biz, several major record labels are suing Ellen DeGeneres for broadcasting over 1,000 songs on “The Ellen DeGeneres Show” without paying for licenses. The news comes so soon after Ellen announced she would be sitting at the judges table for this season of “American Idol,” and what’s more, Sony Music Group is among those suing. RCA and Jive Records happen to not only be part of Song Music Group, but the labels that take on “Idol” winners.

Reps for the show responded by saying they didn’t “roll that way,” but no one seems amused. The suit says:‚  “As sophisticated consumers of music, Defendants knew full well that, regardless of the way they rolled, under the Copyright Act, and under state law for the pre-1972 recordings, they needed a license to use the sound recordings lawfully.”

Welcome to the music industry Ellen…now get the hell out.
