She’s avoided negative press — or any press — for a while now, but Mischa Barton has taken a mysterious turn for the worse.
Us Weekly reported that the 23-year-old former O.C. star is under involuntary psychiatric hold after police were called to her West Hollywood home. Los Angeles Police Department Officer April Harding told Us, “We responded to her home last night on a medical issue. We assisted She was removed from her home.”
Harding also said that Barton was in distress, but would not say the exact conditions that lead to her being placed on involuntary psychiatric hold. But according to code, this is done when a person is a danger to themselves and others. To give you some perspective, this is the same code that lead Britney Spears to be held twice in January 2008.
According to Us, a source said Barton had a “freak out” and called the police herself. Her rep, Craig Schneider, said in a statement, “Police were involved due to Ms. Barton’s celebrity status; to ensure her safe transfer to medical treatment for which she remains hospitalized as per the recommendation of her doctor.”
Barton won’t attend the New York City premiere tonight of her new movie “Homecoming.” Whether or not she’s as damaged as Marissa still remains to be seen.
