To make things more enjoyable, with a quick press of the C button, Aya will change her fighting stance to take up her second sword, which you control wit hthe Nunchuk. Now with alternating swings of your arms using the Wii Remote and Nunchuck, you are able to dismember zombies quicker in a blood bath of limbs dancing gleefully in the air!

The game encourages perfecting your swing timing to increase your combos. If you get tired of using both arms, at a moments notice you can switch back to a single blade and continue. There is just something very satisfying to achieve a lengthy combo from perfect sword timing in the mist of a zombie crowd with sizable chunks still standing not aware that you already killed them.

Aya’s little sister Saki second stance involves her sheathing her sword to pummel zombies with her fist and invoking wrestling moves to stop her enemies. It is humorous to see this little girl charging into a battlefield with her bare fists taking out all in her way.

The two additional story lines involve the use of a gun and sword that breaks apart to form a whip similar to that of the Soul Calibur character Ivy’s Sword whip. Each character is unique enough to make it worthwhile to play through each story line. They all give you different ways to take out the various zombies.

As to be expected, there are several varied enemies and bosses that will have you use different moves and special attacks. The game has its equivalent of a berserker mode. Once your character has been drenched in enough zombie blood, you will go berserk with bloody rage increasing your speed and attack but slowly losing your health in the process until you can reach a holy sanctuary. Also as you go through zombies you sword will get soaked in blood, slowing losing its power and increasing its chances of getting stuck in a zombie when you strike. But a simple holding down of the B button and a remote swing removes the blood so that never really becomes an issue.

Onechanbara: Bikini Zombie Slayers may seem like a crude fan service game with little merit, but that is only because of its Japanese budget game origins. This series has grown since its first conception. It has expanded its characters roster, replayability, innovative gameplay but most importantly this exclusive Wii version is fun. Like a summer block buster movie, the action is ongoing and ends just in time before it overstays it welcome. Sure, the environments are bland and forgettable, but you will be spending more of your time focusing on the zombie hordes.

Plus the price is right for what you get. This is an actual original Nintendo Wii game for $29.99 that is not a port or involves a compilation of mini-games, and at $10 less than it’s 360 cousin, you’re getting a better deal for essentially the same experience. If you factor in the price with all its features, Onechanbara: Bikini Zombie Slayers can be good mindless fun for all.
