You need brains to be conniving too. The new Miss Puerto Rico 2008 seems to have learned that the hard way. Ingrid Marie Rivera beat 29 other contestants to the title- and qualifying round for the Miss Universe pageant- even with hives all over her face and body.
Pageant organizers have revealed that Rivera’s wardrobe and makeup were sprayed and spiked with pepper spray. When Rivera got ready for the event, organizers believed the hives were caused because of nerves. However, after being given ice packs and medical help she broke out again and her belongings were then checked.
On stage, Rivera seemed poised and happy but once off she quickly undressed and continued using ice packs. Aside from hijacking her wardrobe Rivera’s bags and credit cards were also stolen. Still trying to make the best of things, Rivera went though with the contest but a bomb threat caused officials to cancel the last day of events Thursday.
People were amazed over the desire to avoid Rivera’s already expected win. A Miss World Caribbean in 2005, Rivera drew jealousy from contestants who argued she had too much experience to compete. Rivera still won and investigations are underway.
“At one point I said, ‘Am I a masochist?'” Rivera said in a press conference Sunday. “But I said, ‘I am with God and this is my goal, regardless of the results.'”
It’s amazing how ugly beauty can be…
