Paleontologists in Morocco have discovered  the remains of a brand new  40-foot predator with a massive eye-socket; so what’s the only reasonable name to give the beast? Why, Sauron of course — after the evil and all knowing eye from the Lord of the Rings universe.

“The idea of a predator that is physically known only as its fierce eye reminded me of Sauron, in particular as depicted in Peter Jackson’s movies,” study leader Andrea Cau told National Geographic. “The skull bone of Sauroniops is very broad and particularly thick. This suggests an animal as big as Tyrannosaurus [rex].”

The team believes that the Sauroniops was an aggressive predator and used a giant lump on its head for headbutting prey and others.

That reminds me, anyone excited for the Hobbit?
