The author of this article does a disservice to its readers by making the comment in the first paragraph that using coal to generate electricity for an EV is worse than gas in an internal combustion car. A simple search of the literature would have found numerous studies that look at the "well-to-wheels" pollution generated by both types of vehicles, and in every study the conclusion was that the EV was cleaner. Only in states that have as much as 90-95% coal in their grid mix (only a handful of states) does the CO2 pollution from electricity come close to equalling that of the cleanest hybrid car. In all others, the EV is much cleaner. Here in California, only about 20% of our grid mix is coal.

More importantly, an EV is the only vehicle that allows you to drive 100% clean since you can use renewable solar or wind power to charge your car. No matter how efficient your gas car is, you'll still pollute. If you have a problem with coal power, and you should, then you shouldn't use that dirty energy for your house. Sign up with your utility for a renewable energy program, or better yet, but solar panels for your house. In California, solar is now cheaper than utility power.

Further, driving an EV means that all of your money stays domestic. When you buy gas, over 60% of your money goes out of the country. All together, Americans are sending over a billion dollars - every day - out of the country.

Lastly, some of that money goes to the Saudis who funnel millions to the terrorists who are killing our soldiers. Every gallon of gas you buy empowers them.

Switch to driving on clean, renewable, domestic electricity for powering your car and drive with a clean conscience.

The only concern I would have with a fully electric car is the charge life. I remember honda came out with some electric cars, and they were a nightmare. The charge stations were few and far between and the way electric bills are these days, it seems like it would be pretty expensive all in itself. Who knows...
