Microsoft recently announced that they’ve banned a “small percentage” of Xbox Live accounts, in response to enforcing mandated usership polices.
Microsoft previously warned the community that anyone who modded their Xbox Live to play pirated games would face a permanent Xbox Live ban.
Well, that ban just happened, and although Microsoft said the bans reach only a “small percentage” of all Live accounts, a small piece of 20 million is still significant. Some reports place the figure at over 600,000 units.
Speaking with GamesIndustry.biz a Microsoft spokesperson said
“We have taken action against a small percentage of consoles have been modified to play pirated game discs. In line with our commitment to combat piracy and support safer and more secure gameplay for the more than 20 million members of our Xbox Live community, we are suspending these modded consoles from Xbox Live.”
The accounts have only been banned from Xbox Live, and can still be used for offline play, but that won’t help you play Modern Warfare 2 now will it?
The lesson here today. Pay for your games! Stealing is stealing!
