SledgeHammer Games Developing Call Of Duty Game, Infinity Ward Firings Confirmed

March 2

Activision today finally officially commented on the Activision vs. Infinity Ward fiasco, confirming the departure of Infinity Ward bosses Jason West and Vince Zampella, announcing a new Call of Duty game for 2011 and confirming Sledgehammer Games will develop an action/adventure Call of Duty game.

Sledgehammer Games, a wholly owned Activision studio will work on an unnamed Call of Duty project that will “extend the franchise into the action-adventure genre.”

Additionally, Activision confirmed the departure of Jason West and Vince Zampella, two now former Infinity Ward bosses. The press release made no mention of what’s next for Infinity Ward.

What’s more, Activision has formed a Call of Duty Business Unit whose goal it will be to “focus on high-margin digital online content and further the brand as the leading action entertainment franchise in new geographies, new genres and with new digital business models.”

And finally, Activision expressed its intent to bring the Call of Duty brand to Asia and is currently speaking with partners to make it a reality.

Personally, I hate all this behind-the-scenes mumbo jumbo. I just want games that are fun to play. Is that too much to ask?

Apparently Activision has learned nothing from how they totally whored out and destroyed the Guitar Hero franchise. Looks like MW2 will be my last Call of Duty purchase.

  2. Anthony says:

“Wow Infinity Ward. We know you made one of the best and most played games that the world has seen recently, but we don’t like how you’re acting. We will replace you obviously amazing designers and bring some brand new guys to work on the game you perfected. In your face.” – Activision
