Modern Warfare 2 might not support Party Chat

Nov. 2, 2009

Gamers shooting eachother up in the Xbox 360 version of Modern Warfare 2 won’t be able to chat at the same time, as Party Chat is disabled during online multiplayer matches.

According to this screenshot from a leaked copy of the game posted on NeoGaf (halfway-ish down the page), the game doesn’t support Party Chat in certain playlists.

Why do this? To remove cheating I think, but I can just as easily say “sniper posted on that building” over my cell-phone, though not as easily.

The PlayStation 3 doesn’t support cross-game chat, so nothing to say about that, but Xbox 360 gamers looking to enjoy the service and chat with friends not in the game won’t be able to do so. Bummer.

We’ll know for sure next Tuesday when the game hits shelves everywhere.
